What Happened at the 2020 WTA Baltic?

The 2020 edition of the Jurmala Open was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In the first ever edition of the Baltic Open which was held in Jurmala in 2019, Anastasija Sevastova went on to win the title by beating Polish qualifier Katarzyna Kawa in the final She came back from behind to take the title 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, thereby becoming a home player winning at a tournament’s maiden edition.

Sevastova was the top seed in the tournament, and was stretched to a three-setter in only one previous match and that was against Dalila Jakupovic in the second round. There too, she had lost the first set but rallied to win the next two.

Among the other seeded players, only the sixth seeded Anastasia Potapova made it to the quarterfinal and subsequently to semifinal, while second seeded Caroline Garcia was the only other seed to make even round two. It was a graveyard for the seeded players.
