Reilly Opelka v Dominik Koepfer Head to Head

They have faced off twice at the highest level with Koepfer having won both times. The first of these matches came at the 2019 US Open and was followed by another earlier this year on the clay court of Madrid.

Interestingly, the two players have also played each other three times on the Challenger circuit with Opelka having won all of them.

Opelka Underwhelming on Grass

For a player who possesses a strong serve, Opelka’s record on a surface like grass has been underwhelming. He is just 23, hasn’t played a lot on grass but to have won just two main draw matches across eight ATP competitions will be a bit of a bother for Opelka.

Even earlier this season when Opelka played in his only grass tournament of the year so far, the American failed to get beyond the first round. He lost to John Millman in his opener, an opponent who was 2/1 odds to win it.

Opelka’s best performance on grass, however, did come at Wimbledon in 2019 where he overcame Cedrik-Marcel Stebe and Stan Wawrinka to make it to third round.

That said, he will need to overturn his otherwise poor showing on grass and record against Opelka here.

Koepfer 0-2 on Grass This Year

Koepfer has a strange record on grass. Despite having won just one career main draw match on this surface, Koepfer also has a Challenger title victory on grass.

It had come in 2019 at the Ilkley Challenger which had followed a quarterfinal appearance at Nottingham Challenger that very year.

This year though, Koepfer hasn’t made much of a start during the grass swing. A semifinalist at Acapulco Open this year and with a quarterfinal and third round appearance at Geneva and Roland-Garros respectively, he has fallen in the first round at both Stuttgart and Halle.

While the defeat at the latter came at Halle Open was on expected lines, a loss to Jurij Rodionov would have been bit of a surprise.

Can he take the attack to Opelka, another player without a grass court record to boast about?

Opelka v Koepfer Prediction and Tip

Opelka is a favourite at 4/6 to win this, while Koepfer starts off at 6/5. Backing an Opelka win in a best-of-five match, but Koepfer wouldn’t allow it to be an easy one.

Tip: Opelka to win AND Both players to win a set: 7/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
