The likes of Dominic Thiem, Adrian Mannarino, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Gael Monfils, John Isner, Hyeon Chung, and many more have all been in action in this competition.

And given this being the case, it’s expected to be an intense tournament and with French Open right around the corner, players will be looking forward to building their momentum and confidence.

The Lyon is only its fourth edition but it has seen some top action from high-quality players over the first few seasons. Its close proximity to the French Open makes it tough to attract the really top players but there are still a few biggies who are featuring in the competition given it helps players finalise their practice in the lead-up to this second major.

2023 ATP Lyon Open Schedule & Dates

The forthcoming Lyon Open will be played in the week before the French Open, with the tournament to begin with the qualifiers on Saturday, May 20. The first round matches will start off from Monday, May 20 with the final to be held on Saturday, May 25.

Player List for the 2023 Lyon Open

The player list for the 2023 Lyon Open will be revealed by the organisers closer to the start of the tournament.

Below is the list of seeded players who participated at the Lyon Open in 2022. Stefanos Tsitsipas opted not to participate in the tournament despite being the defending champion which meant Cameron Norrie kick-started it as the top seed.

Men’s Singles

Cameron Norrie, Pablo Carreno Busta, Gael Monfils, Alex de Minaur, Karen Khachanov, Aslan Karatsev, Sebastian Baez, Pedro Martinez.

What Happened at the 2022 Lyon Open?

Defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas chose not to feature in the 2022 Lyon Open allowing Cameron Norrie to start off as the top seed. Norrie also went on to win the title as he overcame Alex Molcan in the final, defeating the Slovakian 6-3, 6-7 (1), 6-1.

Norrie had a difficult run through to the title after overcoming Francisco Cerundolo in the second round and needed three sets apiece against Sebastian Baez and Holger Rune in the next two rounds.

It was Greek number one Stefanos Tsitsipas who won the 2021 title in Lyon with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Cameron Norrie in the final.

This was after Tsitsipas had overcome Lorenzo Musetti in a three-setter in the semifinal, while Norrie blasted past Karen Khachanov 6-1, 6-1.

The 2020 edition of the tournament was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Defending champion Dominic Thiem opted out of the 2019 edition of the competition which left Benoît Paire to go the distance.

Paire took home the trophy after overcoming Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime in the title-decider, winning 6–4, 6–3. This was after Paire had defeated Taylor Fritz in his semifinal and Auger-Aliassime overcame top seeded Nikoloz Basilashvili in a tough three-setter in the other last-four encounter.

Both, the second seeded Denis Shapovalov and third seeded Roberto Bautista-Agut made it to the quarterfinals but bowed out, losing to Fritz and Paire respectively.
