What Happened at the 2019 WTA Charleston?

Madison Keys lifted the 2019 WTA Charleston Open trophy after beating Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in the final. She was 7-6, 6-3 winner after having overcome Jelena Ostapenko in the third round, top seeded Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals and Monica Puig in the last-four stage.

Woznkiack defeated previous year’s runner-up Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinal before getting past Croatia’s Petra Martic in the semis. Danielle Collins, who was the 11th seed, and ninth seeded Belinda Bencic were the other quarterfinalists.

Second seeded Kiki Bertens, who was also the defending champion, lost in round three, as did the third seeded Aryna Sabalenka. Anastasija Sevastova, Elise Mertens and Julia Goerges were all beaten in the second round.
