Bianca Andreescu vs Mihaela Buzarnescu Head to Head

The head to head tally currently stands at 1-1. They last met in the 2019 WTA Acapulco, where the Canadian won 6-2, 7-5. Buzarnescu’s last win over Andreesscu came back in 2015.

Andreescu Hoping to Finally Get on Court

The 20-year-old Andreescu has spent most of the pandemic-stricken last year away from the tennis action. She only featured in two events – the China Open and WTA Finals Shenzen. In the former, Bianca went as far as the quarterfinal and in the latter, she never made it past the group stage.

Andreescu rose to prominence after a stellar 2019 season which saw her win the US Open, Indian Wells Open, and Canadian Open. With these three big titles under her belt, she secured her place in the top 10.

Currently ranked World No. 8, the Canadian prodigy opted out of the tuneup events in Melbourne and decided to take the time to practice some more. With no tournament action since November last year, it will be interesting to see how Andreescu fairs under pressure in the Australian Open.

After all, she faces an opponent who has 12 years on her but hardly half the success.

Buzarnescu in with a Good Qualifying Run

As a singles player, Buzarnescu has never made it past the first round in the Australian Open. This time around, she started as a qualifier but ended up losing in three sets to Whitney Osuigwe in the final qualifying round.

However, by the virtue of lucky loser, she found herself with a ticket to the main draw where she will face an opponent she managed to beat over 5 years ago.

It will be difficult for World No. 138, to say the least. She participated in the Gippsland Trophy last week but lost to Daria Kasatkina in the opener.

As for her last season, Buzarnescu spent a good majority of it trying to move past the opening rounds but to little avail. In fact, with the exception of WTA Hiroshima where she was a semifinalist, the Romanian lost in the opening rounds of all other events, including the US Open.

She also played in the French Open but ended up losing to Harriet Dart in the qualifying round itself.

Andreescu vs Buzarnescu Prediction and Tip

Bianca Andreescu has got the perfect opportunity here to grease the wheels and get some momentum going. She may be out of touch but she does have enough skills, experience, and confidence to beat her Romanian adversary here.

Tip: Andreescu to win: 8/15 (bet365)
