Player List for 2020 ATP Sofia Open

Despite being a newish competition and with not a lot of points on offer, the management has done well in the past to rope in some impressive names. In 2017, for instance, the Austrian No. 1 Dominic Thiem, who has made a name for himself in the top 10, was a part of the tournament. It also included the likes of Belgian David Goffin, and crowd favourite Grigor Dimitrov who won that title.

In 2018, Stan Wawrinka was the top seeded player, while the likes of Adrian Mannarino, Gilles Muller and Robin Haase were all a part of the tournament as well. This year’s list will consist of the likes of Karen Khachanov, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nikoloz Basilashvili, players who could challenge some of the other top players in the world in 2019.

The 2019 edition was probably the best for the tournament with Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Karen Khachanov taking to court. We will soon update the 2020 player list below.

Men’s Singles

Karen Khachanov, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nikoloz Basilashvili, Fernando Verdasco, Gael Monfils, Roberto Bautista Agut, Stan Wawrinka, Adrian Andreev and Dimitar Kuzmanov

What Happened at the 2019 ATP Sofia Open?

Daniil Medvedev wasted no time in winning the Sofia Open title by beating Marton Fucsovics in the final after having overcome Robin Haase, Martin Klizan and Gael Monfils in the previous matches.

In 2018, while the likes of Stan Wawrinka, Adrian Mannarino and Gilles Muller were all a part of the main draw, it was a qualifier in the form of Mirza Basic, who went on to win the title. He needed to win seven matches in a row to lift the trophy.

In the final he overcame another unseeded player, Romania’s Marius Copil in a three-setter that had two tie-breakers to clinch his maiden ATP trophy.

It was a graveyard for the seeded players though, with only a couple of them winning even their second round matches. Wawrinka made the final before losing to Basic while the other seeded player to make the last eight was Viktro Troicki who lost to Wawrinka.

Copil’s path to the final included wins over Robin Haase, Gilles Muller and a qualifier Jozef Kovalik in the other semi-final.
