The United Cup 2024 Format

18 nations will fight for the top honours at the United Cup 2024. These teams will be divided into six groups of three sides apiece, with each of the nation facing off against the remaining two in their respective group.

The team that finishes at the top of the table will advance to the quarterfinals, making it six top-placed sides to make it there. One second-placed side from combined Group A & B and one second-placed team from Group C & D combined will join them in the last eight stage.

This will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and final.

Each tie will consist of two men’s singles, two women’s singles and one mixed doubles match. The ATP and WTA Rankings points will be rewarded on the basis of the stage at which the match is being played and the rank of the opponent. Here’s the points system.

Points won against rank of opponent at the stage of tournament:

  • Group Stage: 55 (v Ranks 1-10), 45 (v Ranks 11-20), 40 (v Ranks 21-30), 35 (v Ranks 31-50), 25 (v Ranks 51-100), 20 (v Ranks 101-250), 15 (v Ranks 251+)
  • Quarterfinals: 80 (v Ranks 1-10), 65 (v Ranks 11-20), 55 (v Ranks 21-30), 40 (v Ranks 31-50), 35 (v Ranks 51-100), 25 (v Ranks 101-250), 20 (v Ranks 251+)
  • Semifinals: 130 (v Ranks 1-10), 105 (v Ranks 11-20), 90 (v Ranks 21-30), 60 (v Ranks 31-50), 40 (v Ranks 51-100), 35 (v Ranks 101-250), 25 (v Ranks 251+)
  • Final: 180 (v Ranks 1-10), 140 (v Ranks 11-20), 120 (v Ranks 21-30), 90 (v Ranks 31-50), 60 (v Ranks 51-100), 40 (v Ranks 101-250), 35 (v Ranks 251+)

When & Where will the United Cup 2024 be Played?

The United Cup was first played in 2023 as the first mixed-gender, country-versus-country event that allocated ATP and WTA points to its individual participants.

The second edition, to be held in 2024, will be hosted at the RAC Arena in Perth and the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney. This will be played between December 29, 2023 and January 7, 2024.

The first round matches for will be played between December 29 and January 3. Two of the quarterfinals will be held on January 3 (in Perth), one on January 4 (Sydney) and one on January 5 (Sydney). The semifinals will be hosted on January 6 while the final will be played on January 7 with Sydney hosting all these matches.

What Happened at the Previous United Cup?

USA won the first ever edition of the United Cup which was held in 2023 by beating Italy in the final. In a best-of-five final, USA racked up a 4-0 lead before the final doubles tie was cancelled.

This was after USA had overpowered Poland (5-0) and Italy went past Greece (4-1) in their respective semifinals.

The six teams which had qualified for the second round included Croatia and Great Britain other than the aforementioned semifinalists but these two sides were beaten by Greece and Great Britain respectively in the Host City Finals.

Miscellaneous United Cup 2024 Information

This tournament will be played on outdoor hardcourt surfaces, with a maximum of 500 ATP and WTA Ranking points available to the individual players.

Six of the nations which made it to the main draw here were based on the ATP Ranking of their best male player and six teams made it through based on the ranking of their best female player. The remaining six came through on the basis of the combined ranking of their best male and female players.

Each team will have six players nominated to feature in the competition – three men and three women.
