Martic Coming off a Decent US Open
With a best ranking of 20th in the world, Martic is coming off a fourth round appearance at the US Open last week, and she will take solace from not just the fact this was her best performance at this major but also that she lost to the eventual finalist, Serena Williams.
Earlier this year, Martic had made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon but her crowning moment came on the clay surfaces – there was a title win in Istanbul, and that was followed by a quarter-final appearance at the French Open. Paolini at Her Best Ranking
For someone who was ranked 215th in the world as recently as in the month of March 2019, Paolini has done well to climb up the ladder. A qualification for the main draw at the French Open helped but the title win at the Brescia ITF Open pushed her ranking forward.
Second round at Lausanne, quarter-final at Palermo and a semi-final at Karlsruhe ensured she is currently at her best ranking. As a result of this best showing of 117th in the world, Paolini has made the main draw of this tournament directly and while she starts second favourite, expect her to five her senior opponent a fight.
