Saisai Zheng v Alison Riske Head to Head

Riske holds a 4-2 lead over the veteran Chinese, last defeating her in the 2016 WTA Nottingham. In their last meeting in Hiroshima last season, it was Zheng who stunned the American in straight sets.

Riske with a Strong Performance

Alison Riske was handed a tricky draw in Zhengzhou, where her first-round opponent was the number five seed, Angelique Kerber. But against all odds, Riske trumped the German in three sets with 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(8). That was among Riske’s better results this season, without a doubt.

The win couldn’t have come at a better time for the American, who had a disappointing spell in the US Open series. She lost in the early rounds although, at the US Open, she did stun Garbine Muguruza before succumbing to Jelena Ostapenko.

After starting the season a disappointing note, Riske moved on to have a very promising run. She won the ITF event in Surbiton and later, won the WTA ‘S-Hertogenbosch. She was a quarterfinalist in the Wimbledon too, where she stunned the likes of Belinda Bencic and Ashleigh Barty.

Zheng, Looking Menacing in Zhengzhou

As the defending champion, Saisai Zheng started her run in the Zhengzhou Open with a straight-set win over Bibiane Schoofs. Having won the 125K version of the same event last year, she will be hoping to win the Premier version this time around.

Just a few weeks back, the Chinese veteran won her maiden WTA singles title in the San Jose Open, where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the final. That performance came after quite a slump where Zheng failed to move past the opening rounds in a lot of tournaments.

The 25-year-old’s win-loss tally stands at 19-18 although, she has the skill set to win here in front of her home crowd.

Zheng v Riske Tips & Predictions

Riske will start as the favourite, but Zheng will certainly put up a good fight. The two players are heading into this fixture on the back of similar forms. This will be entertaining where we can see some quality shots but Riske, given her track record against some top players this season, should get this one.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match (888Sport)
