Fernando Verdasco v Steve Darcis Preview

Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco plays injury prone Steve Darcis in the Metz Open opener, bringing a convincing 3-0 head-to-head. Since 2012, however they have only met once, on the grass courts at the Antalya open in 2017.

Both players have been erratic of late with Verdasco having had some early losses on the American hard courts. Darcis, on the other hand, has had no sort of momentum this season with his ill-fated record of injuries continuing. The Spanish veteran will hope to resurrect his season to nullify any talks of retirement, where as the Belgian Darcis will hope to be devoid of injuries, to get back to some sort of rhythm.

While the indoor courts here would typically suit Darcis’ game over Verdasco’s, the lack of match practice for the Belgian will put both players on an equal footing. Expect a back and forth encounter with the Spaniard pulling through in three sets.

Tip: Verdasco to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)

Filip Krajinovic v Peter Gojowczyk Preview

Serbian Filip Krajinovic will be looking to win his first match against German Peter Gojowczyk in their third ever encounter.

While both players have had good portions of this season, neither has managed to carry momentum for extended periods of time. Neither has had a good run of form in recent weeks and Krajinovic who has a game well suited to the hard courts will be disappointed with his early US Open loss, in particular.

Gojowczyk, in particular has been erratic this season, pushing players on the American hard courts and losing when least expected. While his run at the Citi Open in Washington DC to the semi-finals as a lucky loser was impressive, he has not managed to maintain consistency, thereby contributing to his drop in the ATP rankings.

Both players are well suited to the surface and have performed well under these conditions. However, due to the reasons mentioned above, primarily inconsistency it boils down to the better player on the day. Gojowczyk will bring recent form and confidence against Krajinovic with him and can be expected to win in three sets.

Tip: Krajinovic to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
