Sofia Kenin v Laura Siegemund Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between Sofia Kenin and Laura Siegemund with the 20th-ranked American having won their only previous match. This came as recently as the US Open last month where they met in round two and Kenin came through 7-6, 6-0 winner.

Can Kenin Go Deep into the Week?

Kenin’s had a brilliant season so far, her best ever, that has not just seen her catapult to her career-best 20th in the world but also has won her two WTA titles. The first one came early this year at Brisbane and was followed by one at Mallorca while she was also a finalist at the Acapulco Open.

After her semi-final appearance at the Cincinnati Open, many fans were hoping for her to go deeper into the second week at the US Open. However, a rampaging Madison Keys put an end to those hopes by winning in straight sets against her in their third round match.

Kenin did make it to the quarter-finals last week at Zhengzhou too, but here again it was the eventual winner Karolina Pliskova who got past her – albeit in a three-setter.

Given the opponents on display, Kenin will know her path through to the semi-final isn’t much of a problem. However she will need to exude the confidence she did when she won those titles this year, as she gets to that semi-final because that’s when she will need all of that confidence as she looks to take on Elina Svitolina.

Hiroshima Quarter-Finalist Siegemund Looking for Upset Win

After struggling to qualify for the New York Open and losing in the second round at the US Open, Siegemund made it as far as the quarter-final at the Hiroshima Open. While she lost to Veronika Kudermetova in that match, she will take immense satisfaction from that result. The question is if that would be enough for her to overpower an in-form Kenin.

Siegemund’s hard court win-loss record is an underwhelming 13-12 this season, but looking back at the previous seasons this has never been her favourite surface anyway. Since the beginning of 2015 she has has a win-loss of 21-25 on hard court surfaces and this could again turn out to be a tough opening initiation for Siegemund.

Sofia Kenin v Laura Siegemund Tips & Predictions

It won’t be easy for Siegemund as she looks to push Kenin into a possible third set. Even then Kenin possesses a positive record while playing three-setters, which points to Kenin being the favourite to win this one very easily.

Tip: Kenin to win: 2/11 (888Sport)
