Giorgi, Looking to Inflict Damage
By contrast, Giorgi has had a rather opposite season – she started with a litany of early-round defeats and with time, she found her groove.
The Italian reached the final in WTA Washington, losing to Jessica Pegula in the final. A couple of weeks later, she had a very similar run in the Bronx Open as well – this time, she fell to Magda Linette in the final game. While these performances were also overshadowed by her first-round defeat in Cincinnati and the US Open, the confidence she got there will still help her move through the Asian swing.
In Osaka, Giorgi started her campaign with a straight-set win over Han Xinyun.

The two players are in a rut at the moment. However, by comparison, Giorgi has a slightly better chance of winning here, given her recent momentum from the two final appearances. Plus, having already defeated the American a couple of times in her career, she will be more than confident heading into this fixture. An upset may be on the cards here.
