Aljaz Bedene v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Preview

Aljaz Bedene plays Jo-Wilfrind Tsonga in the final of the ATP 250 at Metz. This will be their second meeting. Tsonga won their only meeting in straight sets on the Roland Garros clay in 2013.

Bedene has surprised many a tennis fan this week as he has defeated Giles Simon, Pablo Carreno Busta and Benoit Paire, in back-to-back matches, none of which he was favored to win. In the semi-finals, he came back from a set down to defeat Paire, in a repeat of the US Open, where Paire led Bedene by two sets, only to lose in a decider.

Tsonga had a long injury layoff in 2018, and has attempted to make a return this season. While he had a good run in the tournaments in France this February, he has not had a particularly consistent rest of the year. The Frenchman is a three-time winner in Metz, and will be looking for a record fourth win here.

Expect a good match between the two, with Tsonga comfortable at home, and Bedene with new found form and confidence. The Frenchman is difficult to beat in familiar conditions and the crowd will be a factor here. Expect Tsonga to win another title at Metz in two tight sets.

Tip: Tsong to win in straight sets: 1/1 (888Sport)
