The two players have met twice previous to this match in the 2017 season. Both of those matches took place in the US Open series and Stephens prevailed throughout to take a 2-0 lead over Kvitova.

Following a brief rut in the North American tournaments – led by a lingering injury and the consequent loss in form, Kvitova arrived in China to kick-start her Asian swing and get some ranking points to ensure a top five finish for the season.

She also won the Stuttgart Open and cemented her position in the top 10 all together. Having won five singles titles last year, Kvitova was well on the way to become World No. 1. Stephens Finds her Groove in Wuhan
For most of this season, Sloane Stephens has been struggling a lot with her form. Her US Open Series was highly uneventful as she managed to win just one match in four tournaments. As a result, the French Open quarter-finalist fell out of the top 10.
Even in Osaka last week when she began her Asian swing, she lost to Camila Giorgi in the opener. Such instances have marked most of her season so far, as her win-loss tally currently stands at 21-17. However, in Wuhan, she has looked pretty determined so far as she dispatched the likes of Shuai Zhang and Yafan Wang to reach this stage.
Kvitova v Stephens Tips & Predictions
This is a battle of two top 10 players which can very well go either way. Both of them are talented and capable, to say the least. For the time being, however, Kvitova will start as the favourite on account of her overall form this season. But Stephens holds an edge in the form of a 2-0 lead, both of those wins coming on hard courts. We can expect this one to be entertaining with a lot of games to be played.
