Venus Williams v Barbora Strycova Head to Head
Williams holds a 4-0 lead over Strycova, last defeating her in the 2016 WTA Montreal. Since then, however, Venus’ form has undergone a massive change for the worst and this may very well prove to be the first time that she succumbs to Strycova.
Another Disheartening Performance for Venus
Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams has had a pretty disappointing season so far, to say the least. Her continued struggles with form have taken her out of the top 50 and led to a title drought not quenched since 2016 February.
All of this, coupled with a win-loss tally of 18-12 this year, has led many to question whether this will be her last season. It may very well be the time to call it quits for the 39-year-old American, whose best performance of the season came in the Cincinnati Open and Indian Wells, where she reached the quarterfinal.
At the Flushing Meadows, she fell early in the second round to Elina Svitolina while in the Wuhan Open last week, she was knocked out by Danielle Collins in the opener. She has arrived in Beijing, hoping to find some reprieve and possibly, garner enough ranking points to end the year in the top 50.

Strycova, Looking to Build on her Doubles Form
Barbora Strycova is Doubles no. 1 at the moment, courtesy of her winning run in the Wimbledon with Su-Wei Hsieh. In addition to that, she also won the title with Hsieh in Madrid, Dubai, and Birmingham.
Even though she hasn’t been quite successful in replicating the same on the singles circuit consistently, she would still be more or less pleased with her performance. For instance, Strycova had a phenomenal time in the grass swing as she reached the semifinal in the Birmingham Classic and Wimbledon, defeating the likes of Kiki Bertens, Johanna Konta, Elise Mertens, among others.
Strycova also enjoyed similar runs in Istanbul and Prague as well.

In all fairness, Strycova has got herself an incredible chance here to finally draw some blood against Venus Williams. The timing couldn’t be better and considering the season the Czech has had, she can do so quite comfortably.
