Ashleigh Barty v Naomi Osaka Head to Head

Barty leads Osaka by 2-1 at the moment although, this is surprisingly their first meeting this season. They last met in the 2018 WTA Nottingham, where Barty prevailed in three sets to reach the final.

As for Osaka’s sole win over the Aussie, it came in the Australian Open earlier that year.

Osaka, Makes a Statement in Beijing

Ever since conquering the land down under earlier this year, many critics may have argued that Naomi Osaka isn’t as sharp as she was once before. Her form arguably plummetted by her standards as she struggled to move past the initial rounds and win more titles.

It was the case for most of the season, including the French Open leg, Wimbledon, and the US Open series. But on the back of her consistency to reach the quarterfinal rounds and a bunch of ranking points, the Japanese always managed to stay afloat in the top five.

As a result of this performance, her win-loss record moved to 33-11 and it wasn’t until the Toray Pan Pacific Open a few weeks back that Osaka found her groove once again. Fresh off a disappointing stint at the Flushing Meadows, the timing couldn’t have been better for the 21-year-old as she won the title on her home turf in Osaka.

Driven by that confidence, she arrived in China and has continued to perform in the same vein, if not better. Starting with the likes of Jessica Pegula and Andrea Petkovic, Osaka moved on to conquer promising players like Alison Riske and the Canadian No. 1 Bianca Andreescu. In fact, the number four seed became one of the five players this season to have defeated Bianca this season.

In the semifinal, the two-time Grand Slam champion dispatched the defending champion Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets in a match where she was truly in her element. It is a bold statement, telling the world that she is back.

Barty, Going on as Usual

Ash Barty is going to compete in her first final since the WTA Eastbourne in June on Sunday. Looking to conquer her fourth title this season and add to a list of already-impressive titles like the French Open and Miami Open, Barty has been in a brilliant form in Beijing.

With a bye into the second round, she had a comfortable path to the final where she faced (and overcame) the likes of Yulia Putintseva, Saisai Zheng, Petra Kvitova, and Kiki Bertens. In the match against Bertens, it is worth mentioning that the young Aussie had to show some nerves of steel by surviving an epic final-set tiebreaker.

In terms of wins and overall performance, Barty has been far better than Osaka. With three titles and a strike-rate of 48-10 along with World No. 1 crown, she had the best possible season. Time and again, she has proven why is worthy to be a top player on the circuit, as evident by impeccable wins on the tour.

Osaka v Barty Tips & Predictions

This is a match that can very well go either way. The two players are young, full of energy, and have got the skill set to tackle each other. All in all, it is going to be a highly entertaining affair.
