Donna Vekic v Kristina Mladenovic to Head

The head to head tally currently stands at 2-2, with Vekic winning their last two meetings. The two players met on the tour after a hiatus of five years in the Australian Open, earlier this season. Vekic won that match in straight sets and repeated the same feat in the WTA Nottingham a few months later too.

Vekic, Hoping for a Good Run in Europe

The 2019 season has so far proven to be a promising year for the 21-year-old Donna Vekic, who reached her career-best singles ranking as World No. 21. Led by back to back runner-up trophies in the St. Petersburg Open and Nottingham Open, the young Croat scaled new heights in a short period of time.

However, not everything was smooth and fantastic for Vekic, who also had to battle with bouts of inconsistency and form woes along the way. The present win-loss tally of 34-20 could have been a lot better, if it weren’t for her early exits in a few tournaments.

For instance, after her quarterfinal run in the US Open, Vekic had a disastrous run in the Asian swing where she lost in the early rounds in Osaka, Wuhan, and the China Open. However, she is seeking to make amends for that in Linz and so far, has gotten off on the right note. Starting with an efficient 6-1, 6-1 win over Polona Hercog in the opener, she will now face Mladenovic.

Mladenovic, Doubles No. 1

As a doubles player, the 25-year-old Mladenovic couldn’t have asked for a better season. With the French Open doubles title in her bag now, the Frenchwoman is certainly enjoying her time on the WTA doubles circuit. The same, however, cannot be said for her singles performance.

Currently ranked World No. 46, Mladenovic’s strike rate is at an abysmal 26-25, with early-round exits in six of her last seven tournaments. In fact, most of her season has been along the same line except for the Italian Open, where she managed to reach the quarterfinal as a qualifier, after knocking out the likes of Ashleigh Barty, Belinda Bencic, and Caroline Garcia.

That being her best run of the season on the singles circuit, the unseeded player has spent a considerable amount of time, looking to repeat that feat. In Linz, she started with a straight-set win over Katerina Siniakova.

Vekic v Mladenovic Tips & Predictions

Expect Vekic to win this match in straight sets. She has been in a far better form than her adversary and given her 2-0 record over her this season, it shouldn’t be that difficult for her to win this match.
