Daniil Medvedev v Stefanos Tsitsipas Predictions & Preview

In the first of the what is an all ‘Next Gen’ semi-final clash at the Shanghai Masters 1000, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas meet for the fifth time in their careers. Medvedev leads the head-to-head 4-0 and the young Greek will definitely look to correct that.

Medvedev had a phenomenal late summer where he  played in five consecutive finals, won his first Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, played an incredible US Open final losing to Rafael Nadal and in turn secured a spot at the Tour Finals in London. He has looked to continue his form this week in Shanghai, making it to the semi-finals without dropping a set, despite being pushed intermittently by Vasik Pospisil and Fabio Fognini in previous rounds.

Young Stefanos Tsitsipas’ year has gone full circle from beginning strong by being an Australian Open semi-finalist, followed by a good clay season, but then a dip on grass and the US hard courts, only to revive in the Asian swing in the last couple weeks. He has defeated all the ‘Big Three’ this year now, with his quarter-final victory against Novak Djokovic, as well as secured his spot at the Tour Finals in London. A first ever Masters 1000 title will definitely be something he will now be hoping for this weekend.

Despite the head-to-head a very exciting battle is on the cards, between the clinical Medvedev and the flamboyant Tsitsipas. It is tough to pick a winner and will really depend on who plays better on the given day. It is time for the law of averages to catch-up, and the tide to turn. Expect Tsitsipas to win his first ever match against Medvedev in three sets.

Matteo Berrettini v Alexander Zverev Predictions & Preview

Alexander Zverev and Matteo Berrettini meet for the third time in another clash of the future of mens’ tennis in the Shanghai Masters 1000 semi-finals. The head-to-head is tied at 1-1 with both meetings being on clay, at the Rome Masters in consecutive years and either player winning once.

After a below par season, defending ATP Tour Finals champion Alexander Zverev looked like he was not going to qualify for this years’ version until a few weeks ago. However, in a turnaround of events since the Laver Cup, the young German has looked every bit more confident. He did well to make the semi-finals of the ATP 500 in Beijing last week and is in the semi-finals here again. He will additionally be buoyed by his quarter-final win in a dramatic match against Roger Federer, his first top ten win of the year, putting him very much back in contention for the London finals.

Young Italian Matteo Berrettini has had a good year winning two ATP titles, being a US Open semi-finalist and in good form during the Asian swing. He has been especially impressive this week, defeating Roberto Bautista Agut, and Dominic Thiem, putting himself in a first ever Masters 1000 semi-final and in the reckoning for a spot in London next month.

Another exciting contest on the cards, with both players striking good form in recent weeks. No surprises whoever wins, but it seems to be clicking a little more for Zverev and expect him to win this in three sets.
