Anna Blinkova v Jelena Ostapenko Predictions & Preview
This will be the first match between Anna Blinkova and Jelena Ostapenko, and they are gunning for a place in the final of the Luxembourg Open. And on paper this looks like it could well be a ripper of a contest.
For one, both are similar aged – Ostapenko a few months older – but look at their rankings and it’s a difference of just three ranks between them. And here they are, both in the semifinals of this tournament.
If one were to just look at stats, it has been one to forget for Ostapenko. A French Open winner in 2017, she has won just 24 and lost 28 of what she has played this season. This follows on from the 28-22 record last year. However, it’s not just about stats because things looked to have turned a corner in the last fortnight or so.
A new coach by her side in the form of Marion Bartoli, Ostapenko has already made it to the final at the Linz Open before this semifinal here – by far her best showing in back to back tournaments in a long time.
Blinkova’s had a sterling competition, to go with a brilliant season. 47-26 win-loss in 2019, we are looking at a Russian who has dropped only eight games over three matches in Luxembourg. She might prove to be a handful for Ostapenko but not before a hard fight.

Julia Goerges v Elena Rybakina Predictions & Preview
26th-ranked Julia Goerges will take on the 43rd-ranked Elena Rybakina in the other semi-final, which will also be their second match on head to head. Goerges had won the first at the St.Petersburg Open which was also on indoor courts.
Goerges has had to fight in each of her three matches so far, following the same script. Lost the first set, won the next two to come back and make the next round, beating Monica Puig in the quarterfinal.
On the other hand, Rybakina has had it easy, not having dropped a set so far. She had also won a title earlier this year, the first ever of her career, and that came on clay. Which doesn’t take away from the fact she was a finalist at Nanchang, quarter-final at Wuhan and Linz and now a semi-final here.
And while Goerges is the more experienced and better-ranked player, Rybakina looks like she boss this contest and move into the final.
