Petra Kvitova v Shelby Rogers Head to Head

This will be the second match between Kvitova and Rogers, with the first having come at the 2016 French Open third round. Kvitova was taken to the third set in that one but finally won 6-0.

Kvitova Brushes Aside Another

It’s three rounds without too much of a trouble for Kvitova. Three matches, three straight-set wins for her.

Having earlier expressed her doubts over playing in the US Open because of the issues related to pandemic, Kvitova then proceeded to lose her opener at the Cincinnati Open to Marie Bouzkova. Without too much tennis under her belt and worries around the pandemic, Kvitova has turned things around admirably.

After straight-set wins over Irina-Camelia Begu and Kateryna Kozlova, Kvitova looked she would be tested for the first time in the tournament by Jessica Pegula, who was a quarterfinalist at the Cincinnati Open and had beaten Bouzkova in the first round here.

Instead, it was Kvitova teaching her opponent a lesson as she raced off to a 6-4, 6-3 victory to march into the fourth round. In a match lasting an hour and 24 minutes, Kvitova had a chance to serve out the first set at 5-3 only to break her opponent again at 5-4 to win the opening set.

Pegula had the early break in the second but the experienced Kvitova retaliated with a break of her own and didn’t look back from there on.

Rogers on a Roll as Well

If Kvitova has won all her three matches in straight sets, Rogers has gone one better. Not only has she done that but also never lost more than five games in any of those six sets.

Having started off with an easy win over Irina Khromacheva in her first round, Rogers went into her second round encounter against Elena Rybakina at 2/1 odds. What was, therefore, expected to be an easily one-sided match in favour of Rybakina turned out to be a whipping for. Rogers raced away to a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

And with that confidence under her belt, Rogers then went on to triumph in an all-American third round battle against Madison Brengle, giving her no chance at all. After a rousing start and winning the first set 6-2, Rogers experienced some grittiness from Brengle in the second set but came away a winner in straight sets.

The stakes have suddenly gone up for Rogers, who is in line to make it to only her second career quarterfinal. Getting away from Kvitova will be a task though.

Kvitova v Rogers Prediction & Tip

While it’s a match between two players with three successive straight-set wins under their belt, Kvitova’s experience of playing so regularly in the second week of a Grand Slam cannot be overstated in this case. Expect her to make it four in a row.

Tip: Kvitova to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
