Veronika Kudermetova v Elise Mertens

Veronika Kudermetova enters this matchup as the favourite but it will be a very tricky match for her because she is only 1-4 against Mertens so far. It’s been over a year since they last played but Kudermetova only won the last match between them in Rome.

She’s the better overall, there is absolutely no question about it. Mertens used to be better about two years ago but since then Kudermetova played much better than her opponent. It’s the same case this year as Kudermetova is 5-2 while Mertens is only 4-3.

On clay, the matchup might be a bit closer but on hard courts the hitting superiority of Kudermetova should shine. She had some good results in Doha over the years so there is a good chance that the familiarity with those conditions will work in her favour.

Even with that, we expect a close matchup and the over on games should easily.

Tip: Over 18.5 games: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)

Belinda Bencic – Marta Kostyuk

Another great clash in Abu Dhabi will see Bencic take on Kostyuk. Both of these players have played well so far this year. Bencic has a 8-2 record while Kostyuk has a 9-4. It doesn’t get much better than this and it’s going to be really interesting to see who does better.

The matchup saw only one match between them so far with Bencic winning it easily last year in Miami. This will be different as Kostyuk is a far better player today than a year ago. She has a lot more confidence in her game and she’s not spraying as many errors as before.

With that being said, Bencic still has the experience edge which could be useful. I do think both players will play their best at times in the match. I say times because I expect this one to go to three sets. Bencic should have the edge in that regard.

The safe play is the over on games but we’re leaning Bencic as the winner as well.

Tip: Over 18.5 games: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)

Albert Ramos – Dusan Lajovic

Albert Ramos has been one of the more consistent performers on clay over the years. The Spaniard has a very tricky game to counter and he simply knows how to utilize the clay court to his advantage. He never made a name for himself out of them and there is a reason for that.

Lajovic is quite similar in that regard as the Serbian is a clay specialist as well. He has 354 wins on clay in his career while Ramos still edges him out 580 wins. The Serbian has a 60 % win rate on the surface while Ramos has a 62 % win rate.

Pretty even as is their H2H which is tied at 2-2. it’s been almost five years since their last match though. Lajovic was better at their peak but right now they’re pretty even. Both had a bad start to the year as it was played on hard courts. They’re a combined 1-6 with the only win by Lajovic on clay a day ago.

Really tricky to call but let’ go with Ramos due to his familiarity with playing in South America many times.
