Casper Ruud v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

More importantly, in their only meeting on clay in Monte Carlo last year, Ruud beat the Argentine in straight sets.

Ruud Storms Into Final

2020 champion Casper Ruud will be chasing a seventh career title on Sunday after he reached the final of the Buenos Aires Open with a straight sets win over Argentina’s Fedrico Delbonis on Saturday.

After trading breaks early in the first set, Ruud took control of the match. He broke Delbonis a second time in the eighth game to clinch the first set and then continued his dominance in the second set, breaking the left-hander twice to claim a 6-3, 6-3 victory in an hour and 40 minutes.

Ruud, who was 5-0 in finals last year, has extended his streak in Buenos Aires to 8-0. In his only other main draw appearances in the tournament, he went on to claim his first career title in 2020, by defeating Portugal’s Pedro Sousa in the final.

The Norwegian, ranked No. 8 in the world, will be happy to have settled in on his favourite surface quickly. He came into the tournament with a 2-1 record in 2021 having only featured in the ATP Cup this year. He missed out the Australian Open with an ankle injury.

Playing on clay for the first time this season, Ruud has reached the summit clash without dropping a set. The top seed defeated Spain’s Roberto Carballés Baena 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in the Round of 16 and eased past local hope Federico Coria with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Now he faces a third Argentine in the final on Sunday.

Schwartzman Edges Out Sonego

Defending champion Diego Schwartzman won a close semifinal against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego to march into Sunday’s final. With rains having halted his quarterfinal match against Francisco Cerundolo at one-set apiece on Friday. Schwartzman had to deal with two tense finishes in one day.

Against Cerundolo, the last set was a humdinger with both players breaking each other twice in the first five games before Cerundolo got a third break to serve for the match at 4-5. Schwartzman broke back to stay alive and then broke the last year’s finalist for a fourth time in the set to win the two-hour-and-53-minute contest 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Hours later, the World No. 15 was back on court for his semifinal match against Sonego and the Argentine started well. He took the first set and then raced to a 0-3 lead with a double break in the second. But the third seed was not going down easily, he fought back, taking the next six games and forcing the decider with momentum on his side.

The defending champion, however, seized the momentum back, racing to a 5-0 lead before closing out the two-hour-and-56-minute thriller 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.

Schwartzman’s Round of 16 win was a tough one as well, as he had to battle past Jaume Munar 7-6, 7-6.

The 29-year-old second seed, who was a semifinalist in Cordoba last week, will be looking to win a fifth title in what will be his 13th ATP final. He has a 1-1 record in finals in Buenos Aires.

Ruud v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

While Ruud has had it easy upto this point, Schwartzman was made to work hard in all his three matches so far. But the crowd would back the local boy. There is little to choose between the two, expect a cracking final, with Ruud clinching the title.

Tip: Ruud to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
