Bianca Andreescu v Sofia Kenin Head to Head

In the four times the two players have met on the tour, Andreescu currently leads by 2-1. Three of those meetings took place this year itself, with their last encounter taking place in the French Open. It wasn’t an encounter per se as the Canadian retired from the match due to an injury.

A Dream Run for Kenin

Sofia Kenin has had a terrific time on the circuit this season, having won the titles in Hobart and Mallorca, and reaching the final in the Mexican Open. The 20-year-old American has been nothing but impressive in her pursuits so far, as she looks to add yet another feather to her cap.

Her strike rate stands at 27-15, excluding her performance in the Canadian Open. Needless to mention, she still has quite a way to go in terms of gaining consistency and improving her form on the tour. For instance, in her last three events, Kenin managed to get just three wins before having this breakthrough run in Toronto.

Nonetheless, this performance will certainly propel her to new heights in her career. So far, she has comfortably dismantled the likes of Su-Wei Hsieh, Ashleigh Barty, Dayana Yastremska, and Elina Svitolina. With two top 10 players already added to her tally, there is no saying what she may do to Andreescu.

Andreescu Continues to Impress

Given the way Andreescu has performed in Toronto so far, it is extremely hard to believe that she is playing in her first professional tournament in more than two months.

Up until the French Open, the Canadian maintained an impeccable win-rate of 32-4 with the Indian Wells Open title already to her name. Following that injury break, she returned to action in her home tournament here and by the sheer looks of it, not a single thing has changed for her.

If anything, she has gotten stronger and fearless as she continues to break new records and defeat big guns. Case in point, her most recent victims were Kiki Bertens and Karolina Pliskova, both of whom she defeated in three sets. Before these players, she knocked out Eugenie Bouchard and Daria Kasatkina.

However, considering the way she has been this season, this kind of finesse and play is hardly surprising. Of course, playing in front of her home crowd may have also helped her cause.

Kenin v Andreescu Prediction & Tips

Right off the bat, we can expect three sets in this match. The two players are highly competitive and determined to not go down without a fight. That said, my gut feeling tells me that Andreescu has a better chance to win this semifinal blockbuster. With an imposing form, a strong forehand, and a lot of raw talent, she can make life difficult for Kenin on the court. But then again, the American has already defeated her once this season and has the ability to repeat that again.

Tip: Three sets in the match. (888Sport)
