John Isner v Alejandro Tabilo Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the 6’10” Isner and the 6’2″ Tabilo.

Isner Rallies To Beat Monteiro

World No. 19 John Isner had to come from a set down to defeat World No. 86 Thiago Monteiro of Brazil in a tough first round battle that lasted three hours and 27 minutes.

The big-serving American served 46 aces to secure a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5) win.

Isner, 34, who began the season with three defeats at the ATP Cup, regained some form in Auckland, reaching the semifinals before being knocked out by eventual champion Ugo Humbert.

Into his 12th Australian Open, Isner is still trying to find his footing in Melbourne. The 2018 Wimbledon semifinalist has never gone beyond the fourth round of the tournament, having reached that stage twice.

His last two appearances at the Australian Open in 2018 and 2019 both ended in the first round, which means he would be happy to have crossed the first hurdle this time around.

The 2019 Hall of Fame Open champion and Miami Open runner-up, Isner will once again rely on his big serves as he takes on the unfancied qualifier in the next round.

Tabilo Passes Galan Test

208th-ranked Chilean qualifier Alejandro Tabilo outlasted another qualifier, World No. 186 Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia in a draining five-setter that lasted three hours and 23 minutes.

The 22-year-old Chilean, who was made to toil in the first and second rounds of the qualifiers before making short work of Italy’s Matteo Viola in the final round, had no respite on his main draw debut as he battled to a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(6-8), 6-4.

Not a big-server, Tabilo hit 50 winners in the match compared to Galan’s 42; but also made 55 unforced errors, 14 more than his opponent.

John Isner v Alejandro Tabilo Predictions & Tips

Tabilo’s chances of causing an upset would depend on two things: How well he deals with Isner’s booming serves and how well can he control his strokes to cut down on errors. And even if he is able to deal with both these aspects his chances of advancing still remain bleak. Isner should win this in straight sets.
