Third Seed Garin Looking to End Disappointing Start to the Season
After ending last season with an impressive last-eight appearance at the Paris Masters, Garin has started this season in terrible fashion. He lost all three matches at the ATP cup, crashed out in the first round at the Adelaide Open, and in the second round at the Australian Open. He would be extremely happy to get back to the comfort of the clay courts, where he has a very impressive 72% win rate in the last two seasons.
Last year he won his maiden title in Munich and followed it up with another one at Houston. He is also currently enjoying his highest ever ranking at 31 in the world. If he wants to go higher or even maintain his current standing, he will have to improve the results on the hard courts this year.
But first, he would be hoping to achieve a deep run at Cordoba to get his season up and running.
Attila Coming off an Impressive Victory Over Sonego
Predominantly a challenger operator, Attila has been in impressive form at the start of the season. He has won a challenger title this season already in Bangkok and has won seven out of his eight matches so far. His only victory on the ATP tour was in the first round this week over world number 52, Lorenzo Sonego.
Just like his opponent, the 31-year-old his also enjoying his best-ever ranking of 108 in his career. Last year he reached his maiden ATP tour final at Umag and lost to Dusan Lajovic. He has been playing professionally for over a decade now and has 31 Challenger and Futures titles to his name.
This year he will be hoping to qualify for the main draw at a Grand Slam for the first time and break into the top 100 rankings as well.

Attila is in good form and is a dangerous opponent on the clay courts. He has shown in the first round that he has it in him to beat a higher-ranked opponent. This is likely to be a close contest with Garin going through.
