Ajla Tomljanovic v Magda Linette Head to Head
The pair have met three times before, in Miami in 2017, in Rome in 2018, and a few months later in Mallorca. Those three tournaments were played on different surfaces – hard, clay, and grass – but the Australian won on every occasion.
Tomljanovic Reaches her Highest Career Ranking
25-year-old Croat-born Tomljanovic has reached her highest ever career ranking, every nearly ten years of turning professional, of 39, after a year which, so far, has seen her reach the final of the Challenger event in Hua Hin, Thailand, and, on the senior tour, a quarter-final in Brisbane, her adopted home country.
In that WTA Hua Hin competition, Tomljanovic stormed into the final without losing a set before bowing down to Dayana Yastremska in the title-decider.
More recently, she reached the second round in Indian Wells, and went a stage further in Miami before losing to Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit in a third-set tie breaker.
Linette Enjoying a Mixed Year
Linette has had a mixed year so far, which has seen her alternate between the senior tour and the ITF circuit. Her best result came on the junior tour, where she reached the semi-final in Hua Hin, with a quarter final appearance in Guadalajara also to her name.
Her senior record has been less impressive. Knocked out in the first round by Naomi Osaka in Melbourne, she got to the second round in Indian Wells, but failed to make it out of the qualifying competition in Miami.
Interestingly, Linette also participated at that Hua Hin competition at which her opponent made the final, and she was the losing semi-finalist to the eventual winner, Yastremska.

Tomljanovic will start odds-on favourite for this match at 3/7, whilst Linette is priced at 9/4 (bet365) . The Australian has won all of their previous matches, and is the seed and the higher-ranked player.
