Jessica Pegula v Cristina Bucsa Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at Wimbledon earlier this year and Pegula was an easy winner here.

Pegula Made US Open Fourth Round

Having entered the US Open played earlier this year as one of the favourite, Pegula would have been mighty disappointed with her performance at the season’s final major.

Pegula, who is currently ranked fourth in the world after having lost the third spot to Cori Gauff, was bundled out of the US Open in the fourth round. And that, unfortunately, has been the story of Pegula’s Grand Slam career.

The American has just not been able to crack the code at the highest level.

Fortunately for Pegula, this tournament isn’t quite a Grand Slam and as she enters the Tokyo Open with the memory of an early ouster at the US Open she also has a 30-9 win-loss record in hardcourt competitions to look at this season.

Expect her to continue with that winning run here as she starts out a 1/8 favourite with bet365.

Bucsa Routs Rina

Rina Saigo is currently 400th in the world and has never done better than 322nd in her career. Which is why, going up against Bucsa, the Japanese qualifier was a distant second favourite in their first round encounter.

And that’s exactly how things panned out with Bucsa winning 6-1, 6-2 in a match that lasted a mere 76 minutes.

Bucsa was down a break in the very first game of the encounter but then came back to win the next six games and the set with that. In the second, Bucsa got an early break in the third game before racing through to grab the second and sealing off the victory.

This follows an opening round defeat for Bucsa at the US Open and a second round loss to Camila Giorgi in Guadalajara. Can Bucsa turn things around here as she looks to overcome heavy odds of 5/1 (with bet365) to win this?

Pegula v Bucsa Prediction and Tip

Pegula shouldn’t have a lot of worries here despite having been out of action for a bit and a straight-set win looks likely for her.
