Noskova was supposed to play Elena Rybakina in her first round match but the 2022 Wimbledon champion withdrew from the tournament just before its start. That gave Japanese player and lucky loser Himeno Sakatsume a chance to feature in the opener against Noskova.
And while Noskova came through in straight sets, she was stretched in the second set before registering a 6-2, 7-5 victory over her 181st-ranked opponent.
In a match that went on for nearly an hour and a half, Noskova cruised through the first set after registering two early breaks of serves but it was in the second set that she found her opponent a hard nut to crack.
The 18-year-old Czech saved a set-point in the 10th game of the second set before breaking Sakatsume in the 11th and sealed off the win.
She will now start off an 8/11 favourite to win this with bet365.

Pavlyuchenkova in a Stunning Win over Vekic
While Pavlyuchenkova has slowly and steadily risen in the ranks following her long layoff because of injuries, she is still ranked 86th in the world. A far cry from her career-best of 11th.
Which is why she wasn’t quite the favourite going up against the 20th-ranked Donna Vekic in her opener with bet365 offering 23/20 for her win.
As things turned out, not only did Pavlyuchenkova cause an upset but the manner in which she did that would be something to watch out. Her game was top-notch as she broke Vekic six times in an encounter that went in her favour 6-1, 6-1.
This follows a first round loss at the Cincinnati Open and a second round loss at the US Open for Pavlyuchenkova where it was Danielle Collins and Elina Svitolina who had sent her packing.
Can Pavlyuchenkova now find a way to make it back to back wins here having last done that outside of clay at the 2022 Australian Open. She is 11/10 (with bet365) to win this.

While Noskova is the favourite here we think Pavlyuchenkova has the game and the form to tackle her teenaged opponent. Might see a third set though.
