Jessica Pegula v Maria Sakkari Head to Head

Sakkari leads 5-3 head to head. They met twice before this year, winning once each. Interestingly both those previous meetings this year were in the semifinals as well.

World no. 4 Jessica Pegula demolished Daria Kasatkina in the quarterfinal of the Pan Pacific Open on Friday.

The American needed just an hour to score a crushing a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Russian. Pegula didn’t allow Kasatkina to win a single service game, while she won 6 of 7 of her service games during a near-perfect performance.

The second seed, who had a first round bye, had also won her second round match convincingly, trouncing Cristina Bucșa 6-1, 6-2.

Thanks to the two wins in the tournament, Pegula is 48-15 this season and 32-9 on hard courts.

She won her third career title and a second WTA 1000 title in Canada earlier this year. On Saturday, she will be playing in a seventh semifinal with hopes of reaching a third final.

Sakkari Makes Quick Work of Garcia

Fourth seed Maria Sakkari made quick work of fifth seed Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals on Friday.

The world no. 6 Sakkari saved all six of the break points that she faced in the match and converted half of eight break points to beat the world no. 10, 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 21 minutes.

Being the fourth seed, Sakkari too had a first round bye. She had also won her opening round match with ease, beating Japan’s Misaki Doi 6-3, 6-1.

The Greek player is in terrific form at the moment and Friday’s win extended her current win streak to seven matches. Sakkari had won the Guadalajara Open title last week. It was her second career title and a first WTA 1000 title.

She also reached the Washington final this year, falling to Coco Gauff. Overall, she is 36-19 this year and will be aiming to reach a 10th career final on Saturday.

Pegula v Sakkari Prediction and Tip

This will be a close one. Sakkari has a superior head-to-head record, but Pegula has shown more consistently and has made more deep runs this year. It will be a tight affair with Pegula edging through.
