In-form Yoshihito Nishioka bounced back after losing the first set to beat China’s Juncheng Shang in the first round of the China Open on Friday.

The left-handed Japanese player, who finished runner-up in Zhuhai last week, improved his overall season record to 19-18 across levels.

The world no. 38 squandered a 5-3 lead in the first set as the local hope took a one-set-to-love lead. There were multiple breaks in the second set as well, but this time the Japanese had three of those breaks against just two of the Chinese.
