Arnaldi Shocks Wolf
JJ Wolf had gone into his opening round match here in Beijing as a favourite against the Italian qualifier Arnaldi but did not quite live up to those expectations. In fact, despite starting out a 13/10 underdog in his opener against Wolf, Arnaldi did not just shock his opponent, he made mincemeat of his tennis.
Arnaldi was on court for an hour and 20 minutes in which he crushed Wolf 6-2, 6-2 to reach the second round.
What was so fascinating about the win was Arnaldi managing to hold on to his serve every time, facing no break-points in the entire encounter. He lost just six points off his first serve and five off the second even as he broke Wolf four times, winning 61% of his opponent’s second serves.
Coming up against Jarry, Arnaldi won’t be too bothered with the 13/10 odds against him (at 888Sport) as he looks to continuing the kind of tennis he has played all season that has helped him break into the top 50 for the first time recently.
