Zverev Rallies Past Davidovich Fokina

Enjoying his time in China, Alexander Zverev extended his streak to six matches as he knocked out Alejandro Davidovich Fokina with a come-from-behind win on Saturday to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open.

Zverev, who defeated Roman Safiullin to lift the Chengdu Open title last week, needed two hours and 34 minutes to beat the Spaniard 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-1.

The German held 18 break points in the match and he converted eight of them. In contrast Davidovich Fokina had just 6 chances to break the world no. 10, with Zverev saving half of them.

It was a second straight match in the tournament, and a third match in a row, that Zverev had to fightback after losing the first set.

Zverev had beaten Diego Schwartzman 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. He had also won the Chengdu final after losing the first set in the tiebreak to Safiullin.

Zverev, who also won the Hamburg title this year, will be aiming to reach an eighth semifinal with a win on Monday.

Jarry Saves 3 MPs In Comeback Win

World no. 23 Nicolas Jarry survived a second round scare as he saved three match points before holding off Matteo Arnaldi in a three-set contest.

After failing to capitalise on a 3-0 start and losing the first set in the tiebreak, Jarry was on the brink of elimination as Arnaldi went up 0-40, while leading 5-6 in the second. The chilean, however, refused to go out easily and  saved all three match points before turning the tables on the world no. 48 to win the contest 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Jarry had upset the fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 in the first round on Friday.

A winner of two clay court titles in Santiago and Geneva this season, Jarry is 33-15 at the tour level. If he wins on Monday, he will advance to a fourth semifinal in 2023.

Zverev v Jarry Prediction and Tip

Zverev is the more experienced player. He has a better record overall and also a better record on hard court. Plus, he is also on a winning streak. Expect him to advance to the semifinals.
