Yoshihito Nishioka v Daniel Altmaier Head to Head

Nishioka and Altmaier have never faced off before this.

Match Winning Odds*

Nishioka Returns to Some Form

Since making the fourth round at the French Open, Nishioka had struggled to get going again.

The Japanese player lost five in a row since that Roland-Garros showing and lost a further two matches of the following three he played in.

It was only the shift to the Asian swing that has helped Nishioka as he turned things around in Zhuhai. A first set bagel at the hands of the unheralded Terence Atmane in the first round there was followed by eight successive sets won by Nishioka which included victories over Aslan Karatsev and Jan-Lennard Struff.

He fell in the final there, going down to Karen Khachanov and while he then lost in the second round of the China Open, it was at the hands of Jannik Sinner.

Nishioka starts off a favourite here.

Altmaier Hasn’t Played Too Much Indoor Tennis

Altmaier is more attuned to his time on clay and holds a distinguishably better record on that surface than any other.

20 of his 29 career wins in main draws of the top-level tournaments have come on clay but more vitally he has a 5-22 win-loss record in hardcourt tennis. Add indoor hardcourts to the mix and Altmaier has won just one match in his career on it.

More recently he made the second round at the US Open with a four-set win over Constant Lestienne but lost in the second round there and then failed to qualify for the China Open last week.

With this kind of a record, it’s no surprise he doesn’t make the bookmakers’ favourites chats here.

Nishioka v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

Nishioka might face a bit of a challenge at some point in the match but might not have a lot of worries on his way to winning this.
