Korda Made Astana Final
There has been a sense of frustration that Korda hasn’t quite been able to live up to the fan expectations brought about the sheer talent that he has exhibited from time to time in the past.
That being said, he will enter this tournament on the back of a solid display of tennis on the indoor hardcourts of Astana Open, where he won four matches in a row to make it to the final. And he could have well won that too, clinching his second career title had it not been for the fighting spirit of the in-form Adrian Mannarino.
Korda fell short despite grabbing the first set in that final.
With an opening round bye in this competition, Korda will now look to put the confidence he would have earned from that Astana performance to good use when he faces a player ranked 187th in the world.

Bu Benefits from Kecmanovic Injury
Before entering this tournament, Bu’s only previous match at this level had come at the 2022 Davis Cup and he had lost that to Martin Cuevas.
As a result, despite getting a wildcard here, Bu wasn’t expected to prove to be much of a challenge to a far higher-ranked and better pedigreed Miomir Kecmanovic. Kecmanovic was a 1/4 favourite coming into the encounter.
The first set did not go to plan for Kecmanovic as he lost his serve early and while he came to level things, it took him a tie-breaker to win the set. Little did he know things were about to get a lot better for Bu from that point onward.
Bu broke Kecmanovic twice in the first three games of the second set and was soon going to serve for a 3-1 lead in the decider when his opponent opted out of the match because of fitness concerns.
So while it’s kudos to the manner in which Bu came back to win it will also remain to be seen if he can put up that kind of a showing against an in-form Korda.
