Aryna Sabalenka v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

These former Grand Slam winners have faced off five time before this and Sabalenka leads 4-1 on head to head. Rybakina defeated the Belarusian in their most recent encounter at the Indian Wells Open earlier this year after Sabalenka had won their previous meeting at the Australian Open final.

Sabalenka v Rybakina Match Winning Odds*

Sabalenka Faces Some Resistance from Paolini

After having routed Sofia Kenin in the first round of this competition, Sabalenka has been faced with some resistance from both her next two opponents.

Such has been Sabalenka’s form and pedigree that despite that show of fight from Katie Boulter in the second round and Jasmine Paolini in the third, she has managed to come through in straight sets.

Sabalenka did need an hour and 40 minutes in her third round match on Thursday as she clinched a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over her Italian opponent.

In the first set, Sabalenka saved two break-points and it was only in the 10th game that she finally managed to break Paolini. And when in the second she fell 3-5 behind, it looked like we could be in for a three-setter.

Instead, Sabalenka roared back to stall Paolini on two occasions as she served for the set before winning it in the tie-breaker.

Can she now do the same to the world number five as well?

Rybakina Made to Work Hard by Andreeva

Rybakina was an overwhelming favourite coming into her third round match against Mirra Andreeva but ended up taking an hour and 51 minutes and three sets to make it past her opponent.

Broken in the very first game of the opening set, Rybakina failed to garner any break-point after that in the set. She was then broken yet again to lose it 2-6.

And the match looked to be slipping away from her grasp when Rybakina fell 4-2 behind in the second set as well.

It was around this time that Rybakina started rediscovering her rhythm even as her teenaged opponent began to flounder. A break of serve in the eighth and the 10th game brought Rybakina an equaliser before she started the decider with two more breaks to finish off the win 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.

She will hope to do a lot better with her serving against Sabalenka.

Sabalenka v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Can Rybakina put up a stiff showing? We would like to believe that there is a good chance of this match being fought tooth and nail and get decided only in the third set.
