Taylor Fritz v Yosuke Watanuki Match Winning Odds*

Fritz v Watanuki Prediction and Tip

Fritz is a far superior player and despite the Japanese player’s good form, the American should ease into the next round.

Tips & Odds*:

Taylor Fritz v Yosuke Watanuki Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the two.

Fritz Has Never Gone Past the Second Round in Shanghai

Taylor Fritz has made three previous appearances at the Shanghai Open, but has never gone past the second round.

He lost in the second round in 2016, 2018 and 2019. But he is a different player now and will be looking to make a deep run in this year’s tournament.

Fritz is 50-20 at the tour level this year and has won two of his 6 ATP titles this year. Both of his titles this year came on hard courts, in Delray Beach and Atlanta.

Apart from those two titleS, he also reached six other semifinals this year and was a quarterfinalist five times. Most recently he made it to the last eight at the U.S. Open for the first time in his career, it was also his second last eight finish in a major, following Wimbledon 2022.

Fritz, the seventh seed, is in excellent form and will look to make a brisk start in Shanghai.

Watanuki Wins Thriller Against Shang

World no. 79 Yosuke Watanuki survived an opening round scare in Shanghai as the Asian Games silver medallist defeated China’s Shang Juncheng in a three-set thriller.

Watanuki served 13 aces and 45 winners, saved 7 of 10 break points and converted 3 of 12 to win the three hour contest 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-4.

The Japanese player improved to 8-8 at the tour level. In the last two tournaments, Watanuki finished as runner-up in the Shanghai Challenger and the Asian Games.

He also reached three other Challenger semifinals this year, and made it to the second round at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Continuing his fine form, Watanuki put up a strong show in the opening round. Can he build on the start with a win in the second round?
