Rafael Nadal v Roberto Bautista Agut Head to Head

The gents have met only twice on the ATP Tour and Nadal has won on both the occasions. Their last meeting took place in the 2017 French Open, with Nadal winning that match in straight sets.

Nadal, the Three-Time Defending Champion

Nadal has won the Monte-Carlo Masters a record 11 times in the 15 appearances he has made in the tournament. He has been winning the competition since 2016 and even now, he is set to start as the favourite to go the distance.

The King of Clay has been quite unstoppable in this leg of the ATP Tour over the last few seasons.

He arrived in Monte-Carlo with a win-loss record of 11-2.  The reigning Rome Masters champion was the runner-up in the Australian Open and reached the semifinal in the Indian Wells Masters. He was supposed to face Roger Federer there but ended up withdrawing from the match due to illness.

Between the two events, the Spaniard also featured in the Mexican Open but lost in the second round to Nick Kyrgios.

Agut, Hoping to Continue his Great Run

Bautista Agut started the year by winning the ATP Doha after defeating Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, and Tomas Berdych.

He built on this great performance with quarterfinal stints in the Australian Open and later, the Miami Masters. However, the Spaniard hasn’t been that consistent this season given that he lost early in Sofia, ATP Dubai, and Indian Wells.

As for his record in Monte-Carlo, he has never made it past the third round in his career. Nonetheless, this season has been rather different for him. He has already defeated Djokovic twice and has delivered good results against the likes of Karen Khachanov and Marin Cilic.

His confidence will be bolstered by these results and he will be hoping to at least give Nadal a run for his money.

Nadal v Bautista Agut Predictions & Tips

Despite having to withdraw in the semis at Indian Wells and subsequently miss Miami, Rafa isn’t just the favorite to beat Bautista Agut: he’s expected to win Monte Carlo altogether. He is playing on his turf and it will be difficult for any player, let alone Agut, to upset the Spaniard here.
