Alexander Zverev v Felix Auger Aliassime Head to Head

The two men have played each other twice before, both times on hard courts, once in the Miami Masters in 2016, and earlier this year in Rotterdam. Nishikori won both matches, but their most recent encounter went to three sets.

Zverev, Looking for Consistency

Zverev, winner of the ATP Finals in London last November, would have come into this season looking to build on that form, but must be disappointed with how the year has panned out so far.

On the positive side, he reached the final in Acapulco, losing to Nick Kyrgios, and picked up the doubles title in the same event with his brother Mischa. On the flip side though there were early losses in both Indian Wells and Miami, with his performances in both events decidedly lacklustre.

More recently, his participation in Marrakech was ended in the second round last week, and he would have arrived in Monte-Carlo feeling like he had something to prove. A meeting with one of the form players of the year is not necessarily what he would have chosen for his first singles match here.

Auger Aliassime, A Teenager Record-Breaker

For 18-year-old Auger Aliassime 2019, by contrast, has already been a memorable year. In Rio he became the youngest ever ATP finalist, eventually losing to Pablo Cuevas, and then he reached the quarter-finals in Sao Paulo.

He notched his first win over a top ten player in Indian Wells, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas, and then had a memorable run to the semi-finals in Miami. Those results have rocketed him up the ATP rankings, and, having started the year well outside the top 100, he is now ranked 33.

He also has considerable form on clay, as the results in Brazil showed. he was the junior French Open champion in 2016, and has 5 tournament wins on the Challenger circuit on that surface to his name.

The Canadian warmed up for his match with Zverev with a comfortable straight sets win over Juan Ignacio Londero of Argentina on Tuesday in the Monte-Carlo Masters.

Zverev v Auger Aliassime Predictions & Tips

Zverev is odds-on favourite for this match at 8/15, whilst Auger Aliassime is priced at 24/13. This is not the straightforward match that the market suggests. Auger Aliassime has already proved his ability to upset the form book this year, and, if the German is not at the top of his game, could be vulnerable to an upset.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8 (William Hill)
