Dominic Thiem v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

These two players have met on five occasions, and remarkably all their encounters were on clay. Dominic Thiem won all five meetings although Lajovic did take a set off the Austrian in their recent tussle in Lyon last year. The other matches were played at Rio (twice), Buenos Aires and Umag.

Thiem Looking to Replicate Indian Wells Form

Dominic Thiem is synonymous for being a great clay court player, but surprisingly captured his first Masters 1000 title in the hard courts at Indian Wells. That comeback victory in the final against Roger Federer culminated into a career high ranking of World No.4.

The Austrian will be looking to replicate that blistering form which made him champion in the desert to the Principality. Thiem made a statement in his straight sets win over Slovakia’s Martin Klizan in the second round.

The fourth seed lost only three points on first-serve all match and never faced a single break point. It was a domineering performance from Thiem against an opponent he has beaten only once in four attempts before.

With a great clay season behind him last season that saw him make it to the French Open final, he will hope to have no issues against Lajovic, who…

…is Seeking Back-to-Back Scalps Himself!

Dusan Lajovic has consistently proven he is quite capable of the odd result against the best players in the world. The Serb registered his first Top 10 win this year when he knocked out Kei Nishikori in Miami. He was able to thwart David Goffin in straight sets in Monte-Carlo.

That was another impressive victory considering that the Belgian is a former Top 10 player with immense ability to wear down his opponents on a clay court.

Lajovic’s booming first serve and powerful forehand are ideal weapons on any fast hard court. However, the World No.48 has enjoyed most of his success on the red dirt with notable victories over Richard Gasquet and Juan Martin Del Potro in Madrid a few seasons ago.

Thiem v Lajovic Predictions & Tips

Thiem will start as odds-on favorite to claim his sixth successive win over Lajovic and rightly so. The Austrian peaked during the clay court swing last year and was the only man to beat Nadal on the dirt. That is not an easy feat by any standards. Lajovic has an almighty task, and Thiem winning in straight sets is a smart pick.

Tip: Thiem in two sets: 8/11 (bet365)
