Victoria Azarenka v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head

The two ladies have met only once on the tour, back in the 2015 Wimbledon. Azarenka won that match 6-2, 6-1.

Azarenka’s Resurgence on the Tour

In January, Azarenka was seen struggling massively with her form with early defeats in Auckland and Melbourne. The same trend was seen through the months of February and March as well, with the Belarusian struggling to get a grip on the tour.

The only positive during this time was her run in Acapulco, where she reached the quarterfinal. In the WTA Monterrey a few weeks later, something beautiful happened – she reached her first final since 2016 on the tour. However, an injury forced her to retire against Garbine Muguruza after going up 6-1, 3-1.

Nonetheless, despite a tough draw with the likes of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Angelique Kerber on the way, she made it to the final and concluded a brilliant week.

Now, she has carried the same kind of resilience and determination to Stuttgart too. In the opening match, she defeated Vera Zvonareva and then outperformed the defending champion Karolina Pliskova. This was Azarenka’s biggest win of the season as she moved past the Czech 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Kontaveit, Looking Confident

Kontaveit too, has had a pretty good season so far. Following a slow start to the season, she found her rhythm in the Sunshine Doubles. In Indian Wells, she reached the fourth round while in Miami, she made it as far as the semifinal.

The 2018 Wuhan Open runner-up reached the quarterfinal in Stuttgart without dropping a single set. In the opener, she moved past Caroline Garcia and then, knocked out Pavlyuchenkova with 6-3, 6-2. This has been among her better performances this season, considering that she couldn’t make it past the early rounds in previous events.

Azarenka v Kontaveit Predictions & Tips

Azarenka will start this match as the favourite, given her recent form. She has the experience and more than, the drive to win a title on the tour this year. While Kontaveit is certainly a talented player and can definitely force Azarenka to commit mistakes, she will need much more than that to win here.

All in all, this is will be an interesting match to see where the Belarusian should come out on the top.

Tip: Azarenka to win 2-0: 12/5 (888Sport)
