Karolina Pliskova v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head

Pliskova and Yastremska will meet for the first time on the WTA tour.

Pliskova Seeks A First Premier-Mandatory Title

As consistent as Karolina Pliskova has been, she is surprisingly yet to win a Premier Mandatory title on the WTA tour. Pliskova finished runner-up in Miami Open in March when she lost to Ashleigh Barty.

Her record in 2019 is still very impressive. She won the title in Brisbane to start the year and reached the semifinals of the Australian Open. She continued to dazzle on the American hard court swing reaching the quarterfinals of Indian Wells and the aforementioned runner-up finish at the recent Premier Mandatory event in Miami.

The Czech lost to Victoria Azarenka in Stuttgart  in her first outing on clay and went on to pull out of Prague as a precaution. Pliskova reached the semifinals in Madrid last year, where she beat the likes of Azarenka, Sloane Stephens and then World No.1 Simona Halep, meaning she is capable of slugging it out against the very best in the most demanding surface in tennis.

Yastremska Set To Debut In Madrid

Standing across the net in Pliskova’s first match in Madrid will be the teenage sensation Dayana Yastremska who will make her debut at the Mutua Madrid Open.

Yastremska famously broke inside the Top 100 last year in the rankings becoming the first player born in the 2000s to do so. She has since won two titles on tour (Hong Kong and Hua Hin) and has risen up the rankings quite remarkably.

Will Pliskova be a step too far for the young Ukrainian who possesses a fearless game in any surface?

Pliskova v Yastremska Predictions & Tips

The big-serving Czech will be too hot to handle for the teen. Pliskova is vastly superior than Yastremska, coupled with the fact that the Ukrainian is playing her maiden match in Madrid. I expect the Czech to safely move to the second round.

Tip: Pliskova to win in straight sets: 5/4 (888Sport)
