Stefanos Tsitsipas v Fernando Verasco Head to Head

This will be the first time ever that Tsitsipas and Verdasco will face off in a top-level match.

Estoril Winner Stefanos Tsitsipas on a Roll This Year

He has had his shares of ups and downs this year but if someone said he would have won two titles, reached the semi-final at the Australian Open and the final of one other tournament before the halfway stage in the year, Tsitsipas would have probably gladly taken it with both hands.

What makes it more special is one of those two titles came on clay, as recently as the previous week when he came through the Estoril Open and defeated Pablo Cuevas in the final.

And he has begun rather well at Madrid as well, winning his second round match against Adrian Mannarino in straight sets, following the first round bye. That makes his season win-loss on clay standing at 7-2, following on from the 15-6 he had last year.

Senior Pro Verdasco Showing Sparks from the Past

Heading into this edition of the Madrid Masters, Verdasco was sitting on a 11-10 win-loss record and by the looks of things, heading towards one of his worst recent starts to the year. His twin-wins in this competition, one against Radu Albot, but more vitally against Karen Khachanov will give him a lot of confidence, or more specifically, relief coming into this encounter against Tsitsipas.

After all, since, making it to the third round at the Australian Open and quarter-final at the Sofia Open, this is the first time in 2019 he has won back to back matches – and Verdasco has played seven tournaments since then.

The issue here is his opponent in kind of a fierce form and Verdasco will need more than just confidence to upset the Greek apple-cart. Can he do that or stretch him to any extent?

Tsitsipas v Verdasco Predictions & Tips

We think this might not see the third set, with Tsitsipas going on to win in straights coming on from the kind of form he has shown in recent times.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 1/1 (888Sport)
