Novak Djokovic v Marin Cilic Head to Head

Novak Djokovic is smashing Marin Cilic at the moment in their head to head as he has 17 wins and only two losses from 19 matches they played against each other so far. Djokovic has managed to win the first 14 matches he played against Cilic, only to lose the next two and get back on the winning track by winning the last three.

Both of their clay court matches went in favour of Djokovic, 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 and 6-4 at the 2014 Roland Garros and 6-0, 6-3 in the 2015th Monte Carlo Masters.

Djokovic with a Chance to Go 5000 Points Ahead of Nadal

Djokovic has already won more ranking points than in his year’s performance here in Madrid, when Kyle Edmund defeated him in the second round, and seems to be in much better form than this time last year.

The Serb was free in the opening round and after that managed to defeat Taylor Fritz with 6-4, 6-2 and Jeremy Chardy with 6-1, 7-6, showing that he might be the only player capable of defeating Rafa Nadal on clay when Roland Garros comes.

His record in 21 competitive matches so far this year is more than solid 17-4, with four wins and a single loss on clay, that one loss coming to great Russian youngster Medvedev who is cruising towards a top 10 ranking spot.

Cilic Pulls Off a Brilliant Comeback

Marin Cilic was just a few games away from exiting this tournament yesterday, as Laslo Djere had a set and a break advantage over him but the Croatian player managed to win 16 of 18 points and four straight games for a 6-3 second set victory. Djere was completely demoralized after this meltdown so Cilic didn’t have to do much in the third set, which he won easily in the end with 6-2.

This big comeback should do wonders for the confidence of Cilic as he had only six wins before the yesterday’s triumph and one expects him to be much better as the year goes on, especially when we get to grass and indoors tournaments in the second part of the season.

Djokovic v Cilic Predictions & Tips

Djokovic has always managed to find a way to beat Cilic, in most cases pretty easily, and his 90% win rate over this opponent backs this claim. He won in straight sets 11 of 17 times he faced Cilic and only lost a single set of 6 they played on clay, that one lost set being a tiebreaker. Expect this to happen once again in this match as Djoker looks unstoppable at the moment.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 3/5 (888Sport)
