Novak Djokovic v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head

The two players have met only once and the Greek, surprisingly, won that match. It was the fourth round of the 2018 Canadian Masters, where Stefanos won in three sets.

Djokovic Back to His Former Self

Following his winning run in the Australian Open, World No. 1 went through a phase of a poor form where he lost in the early rounds. His Sunshine Doubles stint was uneventful as it is and when the clay season started, the best he could do was reach the fourth round in the Monte-Carlo Masters.

However, the reigning Wimbledon champion has now got himself a chance to win the Madrid Open for the third time in his career. He has been superb over the course of the last week, starting with easy wins against Taylor Fritz and Jeremy Chardy.

He then benefitted from Marin Cilic’s withdrawal in the quarterfinal and later moved past Dominic Thiem With French Open right around the corner, he has most definitely started his preparations for the tournament on the right note.

At the same time, with a win-loss record of 15-4 this season, the Serbian cyborg hasn’t been that clinical although, he has had his moments. More than that, he has the experience and drive to turn his form around.

Tsitsipas Knocks Out Nadal

Tsitsipas has delivered what is undoubtedly one of the biggest wins of his career. He knocked out the king of clay, Rafael Nadal himself in the semifinal with 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

That incredible win came right after he defeated the number 3 seed Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal in three sets. It has been an inspiring performance by the Stockholm Open champion, who is now on the verge of winning the biggest title of his career.

His season so far has been fairly good. The 20-year-old has been working hard on the tour with a win-loss record of 23-9 and two singles titles. He became World No. 9 on the back of his winning runs in Marseille and Estoril. In addition to this, he was also the runner-up in Dubai.

The Greek is no stranger to playing against the best of the best. He has already registered wins over the big three, including Roger Federer. While he lacks the experience, he certainly has got a lot of energy and stamina to win. In fact, Nadal cited Tsitsipas’ energy as one of the factors that made things difficult for him in the match.

Djokovic v Tsitsipas Predictions & Tips

This is going to be an intense physical battle. Both the players have a lot of stamina to push each other to the limits. Stefanos is coming in this match after a very good month (and week) and as a result, he has the momentum in his favour. Meanwhile, the Serbian will benefit from his massive experience but given his recent form, it may be a bit tricky against the Greek.

Plus, he has lost to him before and it can happen once again. All in all, an entertaining fixture is what we have at our hands here.
