Kei Nishikori v Diego Sebastian Schwartzman Head to Head

This will be their fourth head to head match and all previous three went in favour of Nishikori.

He has won on clay twice, both times in 2017, in the ATP Buenos Aires round of 16 – 5-7, 6-2 and 6-2 and in the Madrid Masters second round.

Their third match was played in the third round of last year’s US Open and Schwartzman once again won a set but that was all he could do as Nishikori triumphed 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

Kei Nishikori in Rome Quarterfinals Second Year Running

Nishikori, just like all the other quarterfinals participants, had to play two matches yesterday as the Thursday program was canceled due to rain.

His first win was an easy 6-2 6-4 one over Taylor Fritz where he converted four of five break points chances and routed the young American in 70 minutes. In the second match of the day, Nishikori lost the opening set to Struff 6-3 but won the next two 7-6, 6-3 and this time his break point conversion rate was even higher, six of seven won for great 85.7%.

The best Japanese player has a big chance to be in the semis of this tournament just second time ever and face amazing Djokovic there, who should have an easy time against del Potro in their quarterfinals clash.

Schwartzman Eyeing Return to Top 15

Diego Schwartzman might have a solid 13-7 clay court record in 2019 and 19-12 in the year overall but is seven places worse ranked than at the end of last year.

He has failed to win more than three consecutive matches since the season started and this could be his best chance to do so.

After defeating Nishioka 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round, he also had to wait for today to play his next two matches of the tournament, firstly beating Ramos-Vinolas 7-6, 6-1 and not even four hours after this match ended he played Berrettini and again won in straight sets – 6-3, 6-4.

Winning all three matches of this tournament in straight sets certainly boosted the Argentinean confidence and I expect him to be on top of his game against Nishikori.

Nishikori v Schwartzman Predictions & Tips

Both players are entering this match in good form and one can expect an interesting duel between them, with both playing high quality tennis and showing why they are ranked in the top 25. They might once again need three sets and over 23 games to determine who will win it, just like in all three of their previous head to head matches.
