Juan Martin del Potro v Nicolas Jarry Head to Head

The two men have never played each before – this will be the first meeting between the two South Americans.

Injury-Hit Del Potro’s Season in its Infancy

Runner-up in Flushing Meadows last September, del Potro is fighting his way back after another long injury lay-off, this time the result of a fractured kneecap which he suffered in Shanghai last September.

An attempted comeback in Delray Beach in February had to be aborted, but the 30-year old Argentine is back playing again, and showed some of the glimpses of his old form at the Madrid Masters where he reached the quarter-finals and had match points against Novak Djokovic.

Roland Garros may come too early in his latest comeback for him to expect a long run, but, given the career-threatening nature of his latest injury, just being on court is a victory in itself.

Jarry, in the Shadows of Garin

Having been the best player in Chile for some time, Jarry’s standing has been eclipsed by the rise of Christian Garin in 2019, who has already won two senior ATP titles. However, he has now reached the final of the Geneva Open, following up on his appearance in the finals of the Brazil Open last year.

He does have a good record on clay, as the nine titles he has won on the Challenger Tour bear testament, the most recent of which came in Santiago in his native homeland in November 2017.

Other than the ongoing Geneva Open, however, Jarry will also reminisce about the Barcelona Open quarter-final which he got to after having had to qualify for the event as a lucky loser.

Del Potro v Jarry Predictions & Tips

Del Potro is odds-on favourite to win this match at 4/1 on whilst Jarry is priced at 39/10.

The Argentine is still recovering from injury, but he is playing a man who is in the main draw at Roland Garros for the third time, but who has yet to record a single win here yet.

Tip: Del Potro to win in four sets: 27/10 (888Sport)
