Will Thompson Replicate Challenger Form On Tour?
Jordan Thompson peaked at a career-high ranking No.60 in early February after recording a very impressive season in 2018 on the Challenger circuit.
Thompson won 52 matches on Challenger level last year (the second most in history) and secured three titles along the way. He finished 2018 winning 14 of his last 15 matches and in fairness, he was simply better than the rest of the chasing pack.
The Australian has since transformed his Challenger exploits to the ATP tour. He began the 2019 season in fine form, reaching the quarterfinals in Sydney, New York Open and Houston.
The 25-year-old reached the final of the Challenger event in Nanchang towards the end of April where he lost to Andrej Martin. On the back of a decent run in 2019, the Australian will be keen to replicate that form at Grand Slam level starting at the French Open.
Auger-Aliassime Denied First ATP Tour Title
Felix Auger-Aliassime is the youngest player inside the ATP Top 100 as he is currently ranked at World No.28 at just 18 years of age. The talented Canadian has been a sensation on tour with his excellent athleticism and measured ground-strokes, a key feature of his game that has generated a lot of interest to the tennis world.
Auger-Aliassime’s consistent rise in the rankings has garnered him automatic entry in all ATP tour-level events, and he will most likely not compete at the Challenger level for quite some time.
He reached the final in Lyon during the weekend and lost to an in-form Benoit Paire in straight sets. That defeat did not tarnish what has already turned out to be a breakthrough year for the Canadian youngster. He will play in the main draw of a Grand Slam for just the second time after also qualifying at the 2018 US Open.

Thompson has had a whole to prepare for this encounter and he will feel pretty confident of getting a result here. Auger-Aliassime has played a lot of tennis recently and he will only have a day to shackle off the disappointment of losing his second final this year. The Canadian is a huge favorite to win here but it will not be straight-forward as the odds say.
