Karolina Pliskova v Kristina Kucova Head to Head
Pliskova presently holds a 3-0 lead over her Slovakian adversary. They last met in the 2015 WTA Tianjin, where Pliskova won in three sets.
Pliskova Starts with an Easy Win
The number two seed kickstarted her campaign in the 2019 French Open with an efficient straight-set win over Madison Brengle. She won the match 6-3, 6-2, in a little over an hour on the back of 36 winners and seven break points.
However, she committed 29 unforced errors – twice as many as Brengle’s and this is something that Pliskova will need to work on as she moves into the tournament.
The current WTA Tokyo champion recently became World No. 2, following her brilliant performance in the Italian Open. She won the tournament after defeating Johanna Konta in the final, in what was her third such appearance this season.
Pliskova was also a finalist in Miami and Brisbane. In addition to this, she has also done a remarkable job to reach the latter rounds in many big events this season. With a win-loss record of 27-7 in Paris, she is one of the most formidable opponents in the field right now.
Kucova Cracks the Paris Code
Kristina Kucova has been playing in the French Open since 2008 but this is the first time that she has made it to the second round. Ranked in the early 200s, she is now assured of walking away with sizeable prize money.
Kusova, who won the US Open as a junior, has never won a singles title on the WTA Tour. She started her run in Paris as a qualifier and made it to the main draw, driven by an inspiring run.
In the first round, she faced the Russian veteran Svetlana Kuznetsova and against all odds, she toppled her 6-4, 6-2. Kucova saved all of her break points and capitalized on Kuznetsova’s unforced errors to reach the second round.
She has spent most of her time this season on the ITF circuit and won the event in Dothan and reached the final in Trnava, Slovakia.
Pliskova v Kucova Predictions & Tips
Kucova is in the match of a lifetime. While she is a veteran of the ITF circuit and has done well there, particularly on clay, it is hard to imagine her defeat Pliskova.
But then, we have already seen our fair share of shocking results in this year’s Roland Garros and anything can happen. Pliskova will start this match as the odds-on favourite.
