Sloane Stephens v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head
The two players met as recently as the WTA Charleston earlier this year. Stephens emerged as the winner in that match in straight sets.
Stephens Starts Well in Paris
Sloane Stephens started her campaign in the 2019 Roland Garros with a straight-set win over the Japanese Misaki Doi. While the American faced her fair share of challenges, she came out unscathed with a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory.
Stephens has some history in Paris, having reached the final here last season. It was a sensational run by her and Simona Halep was the only player who managed to stop her.
Later in the year, the number seven seed also lost in the final of the WTA Finals in Singapore after a highly spirited affair with Elina Svitolina. This season, however, she started off on a dull note and wasn’t until recently that she found her groove again.
Following a series of mixed results early in the year, she hired Sven Groeneveld as her hitting partner. It has been a fruitful partnership so far, given that Stephens reached the semifinal in Madrid. In Italy, however, she lost to a very determined Johanna Konta.
Sorribes Tormo Hoping for a Good Run
The 22-year-old Spaniard hasn’t really made a dent on the tour this season. She has mainly lost in the early rounds in most of the tournaments, except for WTA Auckland and Bogota, where she reached the quarterfinal.
With a win-loss record of 17-16, she isn’t among the most prolific players on the tour. However, Sorribes Tormo has certainly been working extremely hard. She had an action-packed month in May with back to back appearances in Madrid, Rome, and Nurnberg. She didn’t have much luck there and lost in the opening rounds.
In Paris, she defeated Alison Van Uytvanck in three demanding sets to reach the second round.
Stephens v Sorribes Tormo Predictions & Tips
Stephens is set to start this match as the favourite to win. She has been in a good form in recent weeks and Sorribes Tormo shouldn’t prove to be that tough of a challenge.
