Johanna Konta v Donna Vekic Head to Head

With head to head tally tied at 3-3, the two players have always been highly competitive. It will be interesting to see how things pan out here, with this set to be their first meeting on the clay surface.

Their last two matches have been won by Vekic in straight sets, including their meeting in this year’s WTA Acapulco.

Vekic Delivers her Best Run in Paris

The 22-year-old has had a pretty good year so far and it just got better with her fourth-round run in Paris.

This is the first time that Vekic has achieved this remarkable feat and she did so in great style. She defeated the Swiss favourite Belinda Bencic 6-4, 6-1, with 8 aces and a first-service win rate of 76%. Vekic was also fairly clinical through the whole game, winning six out of nine possible breakpoints.

Her journey so far has been quite impressive, defeating the likes of Luidmila Samsonava and Rebecca Peterson. Throughout the season, she has been fairly good and is well on the way to break into the top 20.

Vekic enjoyed a good run in Brisbane and Acapulco, reaching the semifinal in both the cases. Furthermore, she also reached the final in St. Petersburg, where she defeated Petra Kvitova and Vera Zvonareva. That was her first one since the Washington Open last year.

Konta, on a Roll

Following her superb run in the Roland Garros the past week, Konta is now of the very few players on the WTA Tour with an impeccable clay record this year.

She made it to the fourth round in Paris on the back of what has been a fairly easy journey for her. Konta won most of her matches comfortably, with her opponents being Antonia Lottner, Lauren Davis, and Viktoria Kuzmova. In fact, the Nottingham Open runner-up was at her best against Kuzmova, defeating her 6-2, 6-1, in under an hour.

Just a couple of weeks back, Konta reached the final in the Italian Open, losing to Karolina Pliskova in the final. She was also the runner-up in Rabat and in total, she has won 13 matches on the surface, losing just three.

Konta hasn’t had this exciting of a run in a considerably long time and it is certainly refreshing to see her back to her winning ways. At her best, she was a part of the top five and can certainly make it there again.

Konta v Vekic Predictions & Tips
